Inside The Screen: The 80’s Feeling In Call Me by Your Name
The Coming of Age Movie That We Didn’t Know We Needed.
“In one alive, vulnerable and life-altering summer, Elio’s desire finds its purpose. He loves, and in loving, he becomes.” How words work after this emotional wreck of a movie, we don’t know. But you are about to find out. Call Me by Your Name is nominated for the Oscars and we’re right to say it is indeed a favourite. Curious? Get Reading!
Inspired by the acclaimed book “Call Me by Your Name” by André Aciman, this inspiring movie is the one stars are made of. Directed by the acclaimed director Luca Guadagnino, from the get-go we knew it was going to be something to cherish and cry about for a long time.
A ravishment of the senses. That’s what this movie is all about. More than what the tin or the plot might explain, the deeper issues it deals with, from the feeling of losing oneself to the final conclusion of the movie that left us heartbroken, Call Me by Your Name is the one you’ll be hearing about for a long time.
Written by one of Hollywoods finest, James Ivory claims that sequels are not for him. The creator of that fatal final scene, says he’s too attached to the movie to get wrapped around it one more time. “It’s basically a light, happy film.” Ivory claims that the script was written in six months.
Set in Summer of 1983, the gullible greens, the exponential scenes, the cluttered yet uncluttered scenes, all seem to get in the right spot when we least expect it. From deep hues of blue to peach and warm colours, the movie sets just the path that we were expecting.
The incredible details in the movie are astounding and the director itself claims that without the whole production team, the movie wouldn’t have so much impact has it does. As the movie is set in 1983 Italy, nothing was left unscathed “The movie was set in July 1983, and there had been a big election in May 1983, so there were some faded political billboards. […] The house’s real garden was nothing, zero. But in the book, it is important. We hired a landscape designer and created this orchard, and suddenly the movie became filled with the ripeness of summer.”, claims Luca Guadagnino.
Notwithstanding, the custom design was something to get the perfect marriage between fiction and realism, the custom designer Giulia Piersanti created the perfect combo. Having worked with the director in another acclaimed movie “I Am Love” the designer claims that most of the pieces were made from scratch. How can you appreciate the detailed experienced when it comes to wardrobe? Notice the changes as the movies go along. The coming of age movie is a wonder to the senses. All of them.
Ravishing, fresh. A love story made at the right moment, at the right time. There have been whispers about a sequel but, who knows? Are we sure we want another one? Tell us your thoughts in the comments!
