You just won a free ticket to travel in time with Amy Lamp! See the Highlights of Amy Winehouse’s career!
DelightFULL has the power to travel in time with its pieces. We are Time Travelers. We are more than a mid-century lighting brand. We get inspired and we inspire. When we look at one piece we are in the past, in the present and in the future, simultaneously.
The Past, because DelightFULL’s pieces were inspired by great jazz musicians, singers and composers from the 50’s. The Present, because our pieces are handmade by national producers that use peculiar and unique techniques. And, of course, the Future, because we are witnessing innovative designs. The mid-century lighting brand ’s designers deconstruct certain concepts and create innovative pieces that are going to be presented at Light and Building 2018, in Frankfurt, from 18th to 23rd of March.
Today, we give you the opportunity to travel with Amy Lamp. This mid-century design was inspired by the one of the greatest British jazz singers, Amy Winehouse. Come aboard and see which were the most important events when this iconic singer was born!

1983
Amy Jade Winehouse was born on the 14th of Setember, year 1983.
This year was marked by the launch of the world’s most popular word processing program, Microsoft Word. Following on from the start of the recession in the US Unemployment Rises to 12 million. In Ethiopia, following the worst drought in history the death toll reaches a staggering 4 million and the US starts deploying Cruise Missiles.
But don’t we forget that it was also a year marked by the birth of one of the most memorable jazz singers, Amy Winehouse. So, let’s remember the highlights of her career!
1992 – 1997
Many of Winehouse’s maternal uncles were professional jazz musicians. Amy’s paternal grandmother, Cynthia, was a singer and dated the English jazz saxophonist Ronnie Scott. In 1992, Cynthia suggested that Amy should work on her vocal education. In 1997, she appeared in an episode of The Fast Show with other children from the Sylvia Young School.
Winehouse bought her own when she was 14 and began writing music a year later. Soon after, she began working for a living, including, at one time, as an entertainment journalist for the World Entertainment News Network, in addition to singing with local group the Bolsha Band.
2000
In July, she became the featured female vocalist with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra.
Darcus Beese introduced Winehouse to his boss, Nick Gatfield, and the Island head shared his enthusiasm in signing the young artist. Beese told HitQuarters that he felt the reason behind the excitement, over an artist who was an atypical pop star for the time, was due to a backlash against reality TV music shows, which included audiences starved for fresh, genuine young talent! And we sure agree with him!
2003 – 2005
Winehouse’s debut album, Frank, was released on 20 October 2003.
The album entered the upper levels of the UK album chart in 2004 when it was nominated for Brit Awards in the categories of “British Female Solo Artist” and “British Urban Act.” It went on to achieve platinum sales.
2006 – 2007
Back to Black was released in the UK on 30 October 2006. It went to number one on the UK Albums Chart for two weeks in January 2007, dropping then climbing back for several weeks in February. In the US, it entered at number seven on the Billboard 200. It was the best-selling album in the UK of 2007, selling 1.85 million copies over the course of the year.
2008
On the 13th of January, Back to Black held the number-one position on the Billboard Pan European charts for the third consecutive week. On 20 February 2008, Winehouse performed at the 2008 Brit Awards, performing “Valerie”.
In February 2008, Winehouse also won Grammy Awards in the following categories: Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for the single “Rehab,” and Best Pop Vocal Album. Additionally, Back to Black was nominated for Album of the Year.
2009 – 2011
In May 2009, during her set it was reported she was unsteady on her feet and had trouble remembering lyrics. She apologized to the crowd for being “bored” and ended the set in the middle of a song.
Winehouse’s last recording was a duet with American singer Tony Bennett for his latest album, Duets II, released on 20 September, 2011.
Their single from the album, “Body and Soul,” received the Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 54th Grammy Awards. Winehouse’s father picked up the award at the awards ceremony with his wife Janis, saying, “We shouldn’t be here. Our darling daughter should be here. These are the cards that we’re dealt.”
