It happens every two years, and we are anxious to see this year’s surprises! This year, the theme is Emotional States and it is taking over the entirety of Somerset House. There will be 40 countries, cities and territories revealing how design influences our emotions.
´This theme – Emotional States– actually has been chosen to provoke a broad interpretation across design disciplines, and question how design affects every aspect of our lives. It will explore big questions and ideas such as migration, pollution, energy, social equality, and much more.
It will be a combo of ideas, presented by an exciting laboratory of questions that will try to find out the important relationship between design, strong emotional responses and real social needs.
Visitors will enjoy engaging and interactive installations, innovations, artworks and proposed design solutions– all in an immersive, inspiring and entertaining tour of the world.
After all, what is the role of design in our Future?
This is exactly why all the professionals and visitors will gather at this capital to figure it out!
“Emotions are universal, with shared meanings that transcend borders. Installations will explore the full spectrum of emotions as classified by Charles Darwin, in his 1872 work, The Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animal. These emotions are; Anger, Contempt, Disgust, Fear, Happiness, Sadness and Surprise”
Questions such as – How does design evoke, communicate and manipulate emotions? How can design promote and support well-being? How might emotionally durable designs reduce the impact of consumption and waste? What are the possible consequences of robots as emotional machines? – are going to be answered or, at least, they will be thought.
A wide range of countries and cities are confirmed to participate in the design exhibition, such as Argentina, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Dundee, Egypt, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lebanon, Leeds, Liverpool, Mongolia, Norway, Pakistan, Poland, Puerto Rico, Qatar, Refugee’s Pavilion, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, UK, USA an Vietname.
Besides the countries, important projects like the Haberdashery, Berghaus and Princess Yachts will also respond to the theme Emotional States.
