A newly renovated family house in California was renovated by the d\u00e9cor influencer<\/a>, Amber Lewis<\/a>, and today she is ready to give a tour of her amazing mid-century escape!<\/a><\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The renowned interior designer<\/em><\/strong> <\/a>and her husband actually bought this 1,500-square-foot, 1950s property in 2016, but have decided to fully renovate it and give it her unique signature style<\/a>.<\/em><\/strong> Lewis is passionate about noble materials<\/em><\/strong><\/a> such as wood and mature oak, and this was the reason why she felt in love for the Woodland Hill\u2019s house<\/a><\/em><\/strong> in the first place. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These massive reconfigurations <\/em><\/strong>started in 2018 and the final result was a beautiful \u2018a 4,000-square-foot, four-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bath final product.\u2019 The home renovation<\/a> <\/em><\/strong>ended in March, \u201cright in time for my life to blow up.\u201d The designer is, of course, referring to the global pandemic that destroyed our lives, and worse than that, she was received a diagnosis of multiple scleroses this spring. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The year 2020 is definitely being a change for all of us, specially for Amber. But despite the ongoing life challenges, the designer launched a special home collection<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, in partnership with Anthropologie for this fall; and opened a new outpost of her Shoppe Amber Interiors<\/a><\/em><\/strong> in Newport Beach this summer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fortunately, for Lewis, her father is a contractor and helped her finish her renovation just in time. This year, due to the pandemic crisis, our house had to serve many daily tasks that didn\u2019t have to do before, such as an important business meeting, homeschooling, home gym, and more, and this reconfiguration of the house couldn\u2019t be finished at a better time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Lewis is grateful to have finished her home, just in time to shelter in place with the rest of the country, she says it should have been finished sooner. \u201cMy dad is a contractor and builder, and he built the house for us,\u201d explains Lewis, who grew up in Malibu. \u201cWhen the destructive Woolsey wildfire hit in November 2018, he had to stay up in his canyon for two months. It derailed everything. The hardest part was renting for two years. For me, my environment is everything, and it was a bummer not to be home.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGSLA Studio<\/a>\u00a0designed the exterior landscaping to highlight the mature oak and olive trees on the property. During the remodel, Lewis added a pool with\u00a0Fireclay Tile<\/a>\u00a0on the water line\u2014with matching\u00a0Oliver James<\/a>\u00a0floats\u2014along with an outdoor fireplace coated in the same stone from the front of the home, seating area, and pergola built from vintage timber trucked to California from Ohio\u201d<\/em>, AD Magazine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI have a skewed version of what I like versus what I can afford,\u201d says Lewis. \u201cMy taste is expensive, but I had to be on a realistic budget and knew I could do a lot with less if I honed in on materials selection, textures, and colors. I showed off the best I could given the dollars I have.\u201d<\/em> says Lewis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And we couldn\u2019t be more surprised with the final result!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
