Foster + Partners<\/strong><\/em> are a London-based firm, selected from a shortlist of five teams to design\u00a0a new crossing over River Orwell in Ipswich. The competition was\u00a0managed by the\u00a0RIBA. The London-based company won the contest, presenting a project of\u00a0two bridges across the river, that will be separated into different strands to create a \u201ccivilized shared public realm for all\u201d, offering separated routes for vehicle, pedestrians and cyclists.<\/p>\n

\n\u201cThe design of the bridges focuses on enhancing the experience of crossing the Orwell River, increasing interconnectivity and reducing congestion in the town center,\u201d said the head of design at Foster + Partners
\n\"FOSTER<\/a>
\n\u201cThe project also offers the opportunity to consider the design of the bridges in a wider urban context, creating new promenades and public spaces between the riverfront, inner harbour and island,\u201d he added.
\n\"FOSTER<\/a>
\nThose two\u00a0bridges will curve as they meet the banks of the river to create waterside promenades, improving connection to the town center and harbour.\u00a0Along the river the pathways connect with the second bridge, a taller structure supported by branching columns. Here you\u2019ll also find separated\u00a0trails for bikes, pedestrians and cars.
