Zaha Hadid<\/strong><\/em> was a world recognized Iraqi-British\u00a0<\/a>architect.
\nShe became the first woman to receive the Pritzker Architecture Prize (2004). She also received the Stirling Prize in 2010 and 2011.
\nIn 2012, she was honored a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire and in 2015, she became the first woman to be awarded the RIBA Gold Medal in her own right.
\nIn 2016, Zaha Hadid\u00a0was the recipient of the Royal Gold Medal<\/a> for architecture, marking the first time a woman has won the prize in her own right.
\nSadly, on 31 March 2016, Hadid died of a heart attack in a Miami hospital, where she was being treated for bronchitis.
\nMs. Hadid was known for ambitious projects and startling forms.
\nHer buildings are distinctively\u00a0neo-futuristic, characterised by the \u201cpowerful, curving forms of her elongated structures\u201d with \u201cmultiple perspective\u00a0points and\u00a0fragmented geometry\u00a0to evoke the chaos of modern life\u201d.
\nHer audacity and creativity took her to the top level of architects in the world of design, scoring projects around the world.

\nAt her death, she and her firm, with hundreds of employees, had dozens of projects in progress, including an Iraqi Parliament building in Baghdad, where she was born, and her first residential building in New York.<\/p>\n
