The new skyscraper<\/strong> <\/em>of London was unveiled \u2013 The 1 Undershaft<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0was \u00a0designed by the architect Eric Parry.\u00a0The main\u00a0goal was to create the tallest building in the City of London, which will rise 309.6m in the heart of the city\u2019s financial district, squeezed between the Cheesegrater and the Gherkin. \u201cIt is the last piece in the jigsaw,\u201d said Parry\u00a0of his addition to this great dinner party in the sky, \u201cso I wanted to do something that isn\u2019t flamboyant\u201d.

\nParry\u2019s 1 Undershaft\u00a0will be the tallest\u00a0building in the City of London, and the second highest\u00a0in the whole city \u2013\u00a0pipped just to the post by Renzo Piano\u2019s The Shard.

\nThe skyscraper of\u00a073-storey is\u00a0being developed by\u00a0Singaporean company\u00a0Aroland Holdings, and if it all goes to plan, it\u2019ll be finished in the 2020s. The plans include nearly 1.4 million square feet of office space, a free public viewing gallery, and what promises to be London\u2019s highest restaurant.

\nIt will stand among\u00a0a group\u00a0of skyscrapers in the City of London, including Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners\u2019 Leadenhall building \u2013 known as\u00a0The Cheesegrater\u00a0\u2013\u00a0and the forthcoming 22 Bishopsgate tower\u00a0by PLP Architecture. Parry\u2019s skyscraper will be\u00a069.6 metres taller than the former, and 16.6 meters than the latter.
