The new\u00a0mathematics gallery of\u00a0London\u2019s\u00a0Science Museum\u00a0<\/strong>is complete and was created by\u00a0Zaha Hadid Architects.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>The\u00a0Mathematics: The Winton Gallery is the first\u00a0UK project by Zaha Hadid Architects since\u00a0the firm\u2019s figurehead died earlier this year.<\/p>\n

\nSuspended from the ceiling you can find the inspiration for the gallery\u2019s design, a 1929 Handley Page Gugnunc aircraft.\u00a0Huge three-dimensional curls form a canopy over the space, based on the air flows that would have surrounded the aircraft in flight. The translucent, undulating forms are illuminated by violet light.

\nThe Gugnunc\u2019s wing design was influenced by aerodynamic research, and is used in the gallery to illustrate how mathematics can be used to solve practical issues.

\n\u201cConceived as a wind tunnel for the largest object in the gallery \u2013 a Handley Page aircraft from 1929 \u00a0\u2013 the space follows the lines of airflow around it in a stunning display of imagined aerodynamics,\u201d said a statement from ZHA,\u00a0\u201cInspired by the Handley Page aircraft, the design is driven by equations of airflow used in the aviation industry\u201d.
