Right at the beginning of the Advent time, people start preparing the holiday the best way they can. And in Germany is time to start backing the traditional sweets such as Stollen (traditional Christmas treat), Plätzchen (Christmas cookies), and Lebkuchen häuser (gingerbread houses).
But that is not all. People also invest a lot in the house decoration. They carve nutcrackers out of wood, recreate nativity scenes, and build Christmas pyramids.

One of the essential decorations on a German Christmas table is the Adventskranz, a wreath with four candles where each Sunday of the Advent one of the candles is lit.

The Adventskalender is also a German invention to help children counting the days until Christmas day. The traditional ones are made out of cardboard with 24 windows and behind each window there is a small surprise, most of the times a candy. There are many different types of calendars and the imagination is the limit.

And, of course, no Christmas decoration is complete without a Christmas tree. That is the most important element of the decorations. The traditional elements are the glass balls, the straw ornaments and the star or angel on top of the tree.
