Besides having a busy life, Shay Mitchell is mother of a newborn, and the new house had to fulfil her needs and wishes for this new stage of her life. It seems predestined, but it’s true! The star of Pretty Little Liars is living in a glamorous 1920s house, located in Los Angeles. A rustic house that will guarantee serenity and calmness, just what she needs after a long day of world, and specially due to her new period of being a mom of a newborn.
Interiors have to reflect who we are, so it’s important to find the right person that will tell our narrative. It has to be more than an interior designer, it has to be an expert in the field, ready to listen to what we need and envision, always doing the right balance between innovation, aesthetics and fuctionality. Many friends told her that they worked alongside with multiple interior designers and studios, but in order to get a cohesive home décor, she wanted to find a person that understood her perspective of her brand new house.
“To be honest I feel like a lot of people say that they go through a lot of different designers sometimes, and then you’re in a house that doesn’t feel like it’s yours,” she shares. “Now, it feels like me, and it has been so enjoyable to be in it.”
That is why she decided to recruit interior decorator, Chad Wood, that knew exactly what she was envisioning! Sometimes we forget that celebrities are people, just like us, and they also find inspirations on social media, especially on Pinterest. She told AD Magazine that she had, in her mid-20s, pinned the kitchen to one of her Pinterest boards. “I remember that the agent sent me a link, and I realized the kitchen was the same that I had saved from years before,” she says. “Once I walked inside, I fell in love.”
GET THE LOOK
The Canadian-born actress wanted Spanish-influences details, and Chad delivered this wish by including rounded entrances and tiles. Nowadays, Mediterrenean style and Spanish inspired bathrooms are the ultimate hit of design trends.
Shay was very devoted putting her new house together, she even incorporated pieces that she bought on her trips! The orbed lantern (which is suspended from the vaulted ceiling) she purchased in Marrakech, Morocco. “It’s the eye-catching moment in the room,” she says. “A chandelier would have been really expected. I wanted something different.” Wood adds: “Shay has an affinity for lighting, specifically chandeliers, which is what we designed the rooms around.”

Throughout the home, pieces have been sourced from estate sales and secondhand markets. The final result is this beautiful rustic home design that reflects Shay’s deepest wishes and needs, and we’re sure that she’ll create great memories!
