Bjarke Ingel is a renowned Danish starchitect, that had the best idea ever: transform radically a ferryboat in Copenhagen’s harbor into the best houseboat we’ve ever seen! A contemporary home with an eclectic style that will blow your mind, and give you several ideas for your next home … or boat renovation! Let’s continue salling, and explore all the rooms!
Darwin, Bjarke’s little son, said his first word this year and, it coudn’t be more ironic! Agua, or “water” in his mother’s native Spanish! Darwin’s parents are both architects with unique ideas, and this one was probably one of the best projects they have done together! In fact, it’s even more special than anything else they did before, because it’s the crib of the family, where they’ll spend unique and memorable moments!

Could you imagine a regular day with these experiences “the sight of ducks swimming past porthole windows, the thrill of friends arriving by kayak, and the constant, calming churn of the tides—that’s just an average day for young Darwin”?

The Danish architect bought the boat in 2016, and decided to fully renovate it. “It has the past, present, and future of Copenhagen all in one glance,” he says of the views. “Look east and you can see the sun rising. Look west and you can see the sun setting over the queen’s palace.”

Interiors have more importance in our lives than we think, and the architect knows that better than anyone else! That is why the attention to details was the key of success of this personal project. Picking the best curated design pieces and lighting put the rooms together. The right balance between aestehtics and functionality, and the mix of many styles: contemporary with a touch of mid-century and eclectic design.

Actually, layering plenty of light is a feature imported from the mid-century modern design, which provides both natural and artificial light. The two combined are able to emphasize volumes and shapes, adding depth and contrast to the room. Near the sea, it would be impossible not to take advantge of fresh air and a little bit of sunshine, isn’t that so?
