As you may already know, this entire week Porto is the European Design Capital and it’s hosting the European Design Awards. Between 23rd and 27th of May, the already nominated European Best Destination for 2017, is going to receive incredible designers from around Europe. It’s the first time this event occurs in Porto, but the expectations are high. The theme for this year is “Celebrating Creative Excellence” and the chosen city couldn’t be better for that. Right now, Porto is the spotlight and no one wants to miss the so expected event. The so vibrant and full of life city is a wanted place for designers and, according to that, we’re going to show you some renowned designers from Porto.

DelightFULL

Located in Porto, DelightFULL’s mission is to design unique lamps. The brand wants to transmit their passion throughout the pieces they create and by the way they design the pieces. DelightFULL’s lighting reflects a personality, a frame of mind and their goal is to share soul and heritage with the world. The refined mid-century designs from DelightFULL show what Portugal has the best: handcraft. Each DelightFULL piece has a Heritage of manual wisdom frequently forgotten with massive production.
DelightFULL is regularly present in design events like Salone del Mobile in Milan, ICFF in the US or AD Show. They also had a special presence in 50 Shades of Grey and modernity, elegance and sophistication are what you can expect from this renowned luxury brand.

R2 is a renowned award-winning studio located in Porto. Created by the design duo Lizá Defossez Ramalho and Artur Rebelo, the project passes a strong message. Their vision is to transmit the true history of design throughout the pieces they create by prizing simplicity, contemporaneity, and identity. Their commitment and hard work reflects on the distinction and recognition among designers.
Since the studio sites in Portugal, R2 has many collaborators from this amazing country. You can appreciate their pieces in Serralves Museum, Lisbon Architecture Triennale or even in Gulbenkian Foundation. They’re also internationally known and their contemporary work is valued in cities like Paris, Hong Kong, and Zürich.
In 2016, R2 won the Silver Award of the European Design Awards in the Category of Company Logo with the Project “National Theatre Dona Maria II visual identity”.

In 2005 borns Boca do Lobo – a Portuguese luxury furniture design brand. The brand believes in strong values and transmits the ideal of luxury design. They strive to encourage sensational experiences by creating beautiful pieces which are passionately inspired and handcrafted in Portugal. The Portuguese tradition is the highlight in every piece from the brand.
Boca do Lobo works for more than 50 countries from all around the world and their international presence is meaningful and significant. The brand participates in several shows and events such as Salone del Mobile, ICFF, Maison et Objet, High Point Market, between others. They also redecorated a suite of Hotel Infante de Sagres and designed the house of Christian Grey from 50 Shades of Grey.

Álvaro Siza Vieira

Álvaro Siza, the outstanding international renowned architect, was born in Porto in 1933. After he graduated in Architecture at the University of Porto, his work started to be noticed. Today, he’s one of the biggest influences around the world in terms of architecture.
His work is worldwide known and he’s one of the most respected artists in the area. The Portuguese architect won The Golden Medal of The Superior Council of Architecture of the College of Architects of Madrid in 1988, the Prince of Wales Prize in Urban Design from Harvard University, and the Alvar Aalto Medal in 1988, among others. Siza Vieira is recognized for his outstanding projects like the construction of Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art, Iberê Camargo Foundation and the New Orleans Residential Tower.

Paulo Lobo

Paulo Lobo is known as “the man who changed Porto”. He’s one of the most recognized interior designers from Portugal and his work stands out among other designers. Creativity and sophistication characterize Lobo. His work is worldwide known and projects like the decoration of Porto Palácio Hotel, Bar Buondi or Bhule reflect his identity and commitment.
The recognized interior designer was honored with the Mobis Award for Furniture Design and the International Council of Shopping Centers European Shopping Centre Award.
One of the last projects of Paulo Lobo was in Spain and he participated in the construction of the “The Style Outlet”.

Porto is unstoppable and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. This trendy contemporary city only indicates that good and unforgettable things will happen in the future. We just have to wait and see what other surprises Porto has for us.
