With the help of Medellín well-established design firm, 5 Sólidos, J Balvin created the escape of his dreams in his city town! Jose Alvaro Osorio Balvin, aka, J Balvin, is known for his colorful clothes and bold accessories, however this country loft is quiet, elegant, inspired by minimalism and Japanese-inflected decorative restraint.

Actually, layering plenty of natural light is one of the main characteristics of contemporary style, and it has several benefits for our health and also it makes the room look bigger than it actually is. I’ve tried to create places that feed my soul, not my ego,” he avers.

“Art is really the protagonist here. There’s lots of color in the pieces Jose collects, so he wanted a very muted palette to keep the focus on the paintings and sculpture,” the designer says, noting signature works by KAWS, WhIsBe, Josh Sperling, and Takashi Murakami. A custom display cabinet housing three of KAWS’s Companion sculptures provides a visually permeable boundary separating the bedroom from the main social area of the loft, which is centered on a giant sofa and a groovy, free-form orange carpet that nods to the artwork from Balvin’s Vibras album.“The only real door in the loft is the one to the bathroom. The idea was to keep the space as open and fluid as possible,” Ortega explains.

“Gone are the days of big bulky tubs that collect dust,” Alexandria Hubbard of Case Design/Remodeling said. “When people do take baths, they want the ultimate spa experience. People love the small, unique look of the Japanese soaking tub. They take up less space in the bathroom, come in multiple different finish options, and even will help save on you water bills as they consume less water.”
