? WEST VILLAGE BROWNSTONE
Design is intelligence made visible, so it’s time to explore some of his most famous and recent works! West Village Brownstone is an incredible rustic modern residential project that felt like home the minute the designer saw it.
“Built in 1899, the house is only 18 feet wide so designing and furnishing it was a 180-degree challenge from the spacious home we left in Los Angeles. We brought in a lot of texture and detail to bring the home to life: from grass cloth wallpaper, antique mantels and vintage light fixtures to plaster finishes and a custom double-height oak bookcase – a feat of engineering by Hetman LLC – which provides valuable storage and is also a much-talked-about centerpiece.”
Modern rustic spaces tell stories with texture, color, and accent pieces in ways brand-new furniture simply can’t. If modern style is chock-full of clean and simple lines, think of rustic home décor as the ideal middle ground between that and cottage-chic. In other words, rustic home décoris one of our favorite ways to make a room look lived-in, while still exuding a collected vibe without feeling overdecorated.
This style brings together elements of polish, distress, texture, and character in a way that feels effortless. And, with a little consideration, the modern rustic look can work well in almost any room, from the living room, to the bedroom and kitchen. Organic is the name of the game when it comes to modern rustic style. That means materials like marble and wood (reclaimed, unfinished), and elemental fabrics like canvas and burlap.
