OUTDOOR ARCHITECTURE
Take advantage of your pool and create a pool pavilion with stunning neutral colors such as gray and white. This will allow for a more sophisticated ambience and a stylish Summer night with friends. This specific pavillion was designed by Jamie Bush and architect Dennis Gibbens for a Beverly Hills home.
If, however, your home is on the more traditional side, you can create an outdoor space that takes the best of its outdoor plants and trees. This patio decor is anchored by stunning vines and plants all around it, creating a fresh atmosphere.
Much like designer Jamie Durie, you can create your own outdoor dining area. Just by the pool! Perfect for a Summer dinner and relaxed soirée.
And even if you live in the city there’s no reason for you not to enjoy an outdoor area. Gunn Landscape Architecture designed the ‘built-in-banquette’ on this very New York terrace, overlooking Gramercy Park. A small terrace that would make a lot of dreams come true, that’s for sure.
A mid-century modern lighting design sets the right mood for this outdoor space. Minimalist and neutral furniture, wisely spread around an outdoor fireplace create the perfect setting for a mid-September evening.
A more private outdoor design option might just be an indoor patio. The fig tree like the one pictured above creates an amazing shadow and is also great for privacy, in case you have any upstairs neighbors.
TABLE DECOR
The great thing about Summer is that you don’t even need to eat on an actual table! You can just throw yourselves a good old fashioned picnic, but with a lot more style. This eclectic picnic decor stands out for its laid-back, easy Summer tone. However, you can create more of an impact if you dress it up with dinnerware and décor that isn’t strictly intended for outdoor use. For seating, use loose yet luxe throws and plush pillows that will have guests wanting to lounge for hours. You can use different candles and centerpieces paired with light-neutral palettes to give off a more bohemian feel.
You can go a little bit more classic and opt for an all-white table setting. Adding a contrasting yet natural pop of mustard or poppy in your florals will make this traditional setting less stuffy. Keep your table dressings monochromatic and pure white – but embrace texture and tonal stripes to add warmth and visual interest.
Call out on what the tropics have that it’s best to offer and channel all its scents, colors and atmosphere with a dining setting filled with baskets of freshly cut fruit, scented water, and lots of color. Use linens and dinnerware that add a graphic punch to an already festive gathering, and opt for natural baskets, ceramics and anything with a hand-done touch to embrace the warm, island feel.
